Default Cam suggestions for lq4

Hey guys I am looking for a cam for my lq4. I am swapping an 05 lq4 into my 89 rcsb obs along with a t56 and figure I may as well throw in a cam while its out. The enigine will be basically stock with the exception of an air intake and exhaust (obs conversion lt headers from Schoenfeld, dual 2 1/2 inch with x-pipe and magnaflows). The truck will never tow and is not a daily driver but I still want it to be capable of being driven problem free. I am looking for a cam with a broad torque curve suitable for a truck and with decent street manners. I want a good idle but wouldn't mind having a little lope. I was looking at the gt2-3 cam as the tbss guys seem to really like it but have been told there are much better NA cams that are just as streetable. I have also been looking at the tr224 112 as it seems to be the most commonly used cam out there for daily driver type builds. I will get a tune after the swap. Any recommendations would be great, thanks.

TR224 would be a good cam, the 112 LSA will lope a bit more, the 114 LSA will lope less. Make sure you get better springs and pushrods. Good luck and welcome to the site.

^^^I agree. It has a nice little lobe to it too. You could run a PAC single and have a nice street truck. Easy to tune, and good street maners too.

i was looking at the VRX3 cam for my near future LQ4 swap. looks like a pretty good cam for a stock headed 6.0L. but basically anything around 228-230* should be good

Hey thanks for the replies. I really appreciate it. I will be replacing springs and pushrods as suggested. I have done a bit more reading on the cams suggested by the contributors here and I am liking the sounds (no pun intended) of the VRX3 recommended by YodiBrodi. Can anyone give me some more feedback on this cam for essentially a cam only engine? Also if anyone can provide feedback on the VRX4 or even VRX5 that would be great. Vengence touts the VRX5 as "Our #1 Camshaft in daily driven LS2 equipped Vettes/GTOs/CTSVs." but it seems to look like a pretty aggressive cam to me.

Hey guys I think I may have found my answers by looking around a bit more on this site as well as on ls1tech. It looks that the VRX3 is better for heavier vehicles than the VRX4 or 5 for that matter as it provides a little more torque at the expensive of some higher end hp. It looks to provide a lower rpm powerband with better road manners. Also with less lift, it should be easier on the valvetrain if im not mistaken. Still looking for any feedback on the cam though and any first hand experience would be great. Also the lq4 I will be using has about 140,000km (85,000 miles) will it be up to the task of a more agressive than stock cam? Thanks again.

Was the TBSS intake a very noticeable gain on your LQ9? I bet that cam is badass!

There are guys on here camming 150K+ mile motors and running the snot out of them. My LQ9 has 89K miles and I just cam'd it. Still holding strong. 85K is nothing for these engines if they have been taken care of.
