Default Cam Recommendations

I did a search but did not find anything that applied to my application.

I have a 2003 ECSB with a 5.3 and 4WD. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a cam. Im looking for maximum torque under 6000rpm. I might end up getting some ported heads later on but for right now I was going to keep the stock heads. Im debating whether or not I want to run long tube headers. If I can find a way to get around the visual inspection part I will. (I live in with the smog **** state Ca). I would also like to keep the stock truck intake. Thanks
Daniel

Are you going to get a higher stalling torque converter? Any cam will make peak torque under 6000 rpm but anything over ~220 will need a TC or you will probably feel a loss on the bottom end.
Most people say a 224 cam is max on the sniffer for a 5.3L.

How will a higher stall affect drive ability and towing ?

Depending on the TC you will lose mileage and your towing will suffer as your tranny will get hotter so you will need a large aftermarket cooler...

How much do you tow? Anything stalled over 3000 would not be a good choice if that is a concern. A trans cooler is always awise choice.

I had a 3000 and now with the SC i run a 2800 rpm stall and my truck is very well street mannered. I dont tow but I'm sure I could with no probs.

Not that often but I when I do I dont want to have to worry about my tranny over heating. This is also my daily driver.

just get a very large tranny cooler and i would think you could tow easily while having up to a 3000rpm stall
