The largest cam we will recommend for a 4.8 that sees the street is a 220/220 cam. It will definitely need a converter. We have used the comp 212/218 with a lot of success as well.

What all are you guys looking at to size your cams? Is your cam recommendation different for a 5.3 or a 6.0?

He has a 5 sp so no torque converter needed. the 212.218 would be a great cam for a dd 4.8L.
with more displacement you can run more duration. I DD a 227/235 in my LQ4 6.0L

My mistake, I missed that. You have a lot more freedom with the 5 sp on cam size. 212/218 is great for DD as stated above. I still think 220/220 would do well with the manual transmission.
