Did mine yesterday. I ended up using the magnets. The dowels didnt seem to be working. Guess what cam it was...GT2-3..in my 6L

I havent had a chance to really get on it yet for a long distance to see how it pulls but, I did get my 2psi of boost back. ( I had too much overlap in my previous cam and it was bleeding boost off )

Back to the dyno.....

It can be intimidating. The chance of dropping a lifter into the engine is real but I think a bit over hyped. The plastic keepers work better than most give credit but considering the consequences, why chance it.

When I swapped the cam on the 6.0 it was on an engine stand and had the oil pan off. No risk really... I didn't do any of the magnets or dowels. A lifter didn't fall. When I put the cam back in my now spare 5.3 sitting in the garage, I tested the plastic holders. It sat without a cam for 3 days and a lifter didn't drop. Course these are fairly low miles engines. Dunno what a higher mileage cup would do.

Doing a swap in the truck I will still use either magnets or dowels.

Trever1T hopefully it will hit 11s atleast in cool weather.

1slowhoe I imagine that would work the best but all came out well anyway Back to the Dyno yep

The truck is all back together and runnin fine I didnt get on it at all as I want to put some miles on it before the dyno. I cant wait till the tracks open.

FYI on higher mileage <50K the lifters dont seem to stay up well. I did a cam swap on AP2002's truck with 80K on it and the lifters seemed to stay up alright but if you let it sit for a bit a couple would fall, my old 5.3 with a 180K at the time pretty much none would stay up you could here the lifters pop up and fall pretty much right back down onto the cam.

Sorry UB I did intend to take pics but I forgot the camera. I used the dowel method not that I think it would have helped if a lifter did decide to fall what I did is spun the cam so all the lifters would stay up and have the new cam ready and swap out the cams quickly.
