Cam
Alright new to this forum but was/am part of truckforum.org. Haha to be honest they were a little more on the hillbilly side than performance truck(what Im after)
anyway: I plan to do a cam. What duration should I go with? I want a fairly descent kinda lope at idle but some get up and go when I smash the go pedal. But other than that I wanna be able to run it with stock pistons, and torque converter (might need a trans soon tho so I might get a beefed up one from a shop in here in AZ) but I may do valvetrain if necessary. Any suggestions would be great thanks guys

hey man, welcome to the site! I have a comp 222/224/112 lsa its 568 lift. You should really run a converter if u want anything bigger than a z06 cam. Anything other than that and u will need valve springs also. Hope this helps!!

Hello and welcome to the forum. You really need to go and read this https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...d.php?t=387763 before making any decisions. Cam and converter should be matched. Enjoy your stay.

that had a lot of stuff to take in and consider and everything however I still know absolutely nothing about the cam I have in my truck now except its probly in the 3's for duration. So that being said what now? is there still no recommendations for putting a cam in and the possibility of putting a torque converter in and a definate valve train upgrade?

Nothing largeer than 208º on a 112ºlsa with a stock converter. If you want it to have some lope, you could go as large as 210º and have it ground on a 108º lober center. Either cam will have lots of low end and mid range power. It doesn't take much cam to make the 4.8l pull hard.
If you decide to run a higher stall converter you can stretch the duration another 6-10º.
Good luck and welcome to the forum

alright here it is; 100% ***** out everything Im pretty sure anyone could ever wanna know about 1 singular cam:
Crane PowerMax Cam: Recommended use is for towing so high torque?
RPM:1500-5000
Int. & Exh. Duration at .050in lift: 200
Advertised(?) Int. & Exh. Duration: 262
Int./Exh. valve lift with stock rocker arm ratio: 0.502in.
Lobe Separation(LSA): 113 degrees
Int./Exh. Valve lash: 0.000in.
and Computer Controlable
good find? Because every other cam listed is like a 300 duration and like .510 lift.. so am I where I should be looking or should I go for higher duration/lift? any suggestions there?

a 200 lift cam is probably going to have some valve float around 5800-6k rpm, which isn't good. I would go with a 210/218 from Vinci. You'll need a stall, but you need one of those anyways! lol, try to find a Trailblazer stall if you can. I think they're around 2600, give or take a bit.
