Default Building a boost motor..what goes in?

A buddy of mine has a turbo 2000 ecsb z71 all stock internals...it's cammed with supporting mods and a Garrett turbo around 10psi (not sure on size). He wants to build the motor and run a ton of boost...I'm thinking low 10 second truck. I've told him pat g spec cam and dump his comp spec (unsure on current cam specs as well). My question to you guys is, if u were building this motor what would u put in? I told him mahle pistons and Callie h beams and crank. You guys know your **** and after 2 days of searching there's so many probabilities I would like direct input. Also I remember a guy taking a stock bottom end 4.8 to 16 psi with no problems or failures he just simply gapped the top ring. What was that gap? Motor will be a 5.3 bored to a 383 I'm pretty sure

Mahle dish pistons have a thin top ring land and are known for breaking under high boost. Wiseco, je, diamond are all a good piston.

If your wanting to build a 383 out of a 5.3 your going to bore the block from 3.78 to 3.898-3.902 depending on the combination you go with. Then you'll need a 4" stroker crank shaft, h beam rods, and pistons. Get with Beau@SDPC and he will set you up with a 383 stroker rotating assembly and all the parts you'll need.

Kinda depends on the model of Mahle piston you use. There are 2 different grades.

I have actually been considering SCAT rods, have heard really good reviews on them, from some of the stuff I have found, Callie rods are not the greatest. For a good boost piston, Wiseco, CP, Diamond and from talking with a few people on this site, local builders Racetec pistons have been a low key, but really nice piston.. All in all its going to be about what he wants to spend. Stock crank is fine, can take a good beating. For the record plenty and plenty of people have made well over 500 hp on pre 05 engines with out issues..
