i'm doin a cam/heads swap this weekend on my 4.8. The springs are already done on the heads so I just have to bolt them on. But what is this everyone is saying about the harmonic balancer? I am used to the older motors where we would just jam it with a breaker bar. What tool do I need to get the balancer off?

Some guys rent the chrysler balancer puller from the parts place. You can impact the bolt out, you should replace it with a new bolt when it goes back together because it is torque to yield. Use a piece of all thread or the correct tool to pull the balancer back on. You want the all thread to be bottomed out in the crank before you start pulling the balancer on. Get the new bolt as tight as you can.

If you throw the balancer in the oven at 375 for 20 min or so, it will slide right on, but you have to be quick about it, or it will only slide halfway and stick, but you can then usually pull it the rest of the way on with the stock bolt.

I've done this twice and works great

i used one of the cheap vato zone pullers and this is what happened

so dont be suprised when this happens, so i had to use a bigger one but apparently these results arent typical hahah as for putting it back on just heated it with a little 12$ torch from home depot and slid it on used the impact to put it all the way back on then hook a chain to it put the other end on a bolt somewhere on the motor and torque that bizatch down. lot easier than it sounds.
