A cheapo compression tester with a air fitting on one end to plug into your airline if you have one works great.

Good luck with getting the swap done. That crane tool is definitely worth it just like everyone else said. The harmonic balancer puller we used was the one from AutoZone. It's a little odd how you have to put it on, but it worked quite dandy. One thing you may try is baking the pulley before you put it back on.

Also, DO NOT reuse the stock balancer bolt. Please

Thunder's a nice guy for letting you borrow the tool

Put the balancer in the oven. 300 degrees for 20 minutes or so. Be quick about getting it on the truck after you pull it out, and you should be able to get it to seat fully or at least enough to get enough threads from the stock bolt engaged to seat the pulley the rest of the way.

I bet you dont want to know that I did my cam and spring swap In my garage last saturday. It took 13 hrs total (with a few breaks). Be patient you'll get it. I had other patient people there to help me. Also the balancer puller I borrowed from Advanced Auto had a nice hardend bolt in it that I used with my cheap spring compresser, the flat prybar looking one. With a bunch of washers on top it, it worked pretty good. Kind of gehto though. If you can get the crane spring compresser get it.

As far as the balancer goes I put my pulley in the oven to get it warm and I used a big socket on the center to tap it. Got it on a little ways and then used an Impact.

hah, that oven idea is bad ***, and real good to know for if I have another attempt at a house
but 13 hrs total huh? dam bro thats a slow process. In the time from 1045-6ish I had stripped the front of the motor including water pump, pulled the pulley and pulled the valve covers and rockers. Scratched my head and nuts for a couple 15 mins and had a few choice words out of anxiety and slapped it all back together. Kinda frustrating but I think if I start at about 730am Ill be done by about 6pm. So lookin for a place to do it still and the easy spring compressor and my retainers to come in and Ill be all ready haha. But thanks for all the support guys, Ill let u all know if I end up getting it done next weekend.. cross ur fingers
