Default ARP/Katech connecting rod bolts...

I was going to order an ARP set from thunder racing and they mentioned something about a line bore? What is that? From reading after a search, it looks like the Katech's will bolt directly in after removing the feral or collar. The ARP's I assume are the same? Are the Katech's better than the ARP's? I'm putting these in a 2005 6.0L that's housing a TR 224/224 114 LSA cam, but I'm not sure how high I will rev it?

I did a ton of research on this same subjust (ARP vs Katech) before I bought mine. Everywhere you read that ARP needs to be either checked or machine the connect rod and that Katech are direct replacement with no machine work needed.

There are a lot of people on LS1Tech that are using the ARP bolts by just dropping them in and go. So far I haven't seen a single person complain or say they had a problem after doing so except for the one guy who didn't remove the ferrul (sp?), collar from the old rod bolt before putting them in.

Even though the ARP bolts would probably have worked and held up just fine and been cheaper I decieded to go with Katechs because of the peace of mind they give me and that they do state they have a higher strength bolt than ARP.

Excellent reply. So the ARP's do require something more for the install? The Katech's have a healthy price tag, but if they are a direct replacement, that may be a cheaper option anyhow.

I bought the Katechs. They are a direct fit. And being reusable makes it an even better bargain. The ARP bolts may be reusable as well, I never checked. But I've swapped my Katechs around a couple of times and they work great. Buy the good stuff first and you don’t have to buy it later when the cheaper stuff doesn't work out

I had heard this too, but when I ask a seemingly more knowlegeable source found out that is for the SBC rod bolts that are actualls pressed into the rod. I got the ARPs pulled the pan and put them in, no problems since.

I also did some research on this and heard the same info on the Katechs...they bolt right in while the ARP's may require machining or adjustments, and may also cause the rod cap to warp. Also from what I've read, Lingenfelter uses the Katechs, and personally I trust Lingenfelter's judgement.

ARP says their is possiblity of resizing machine work to get the rod bore straight with their bolts but like White1, there are many people who just toss them in and have had no problems.
Katech states their bolts are direct replacement with no resizing needed.

I think I'll go with the Katech's just for simplicity. Who's the best source for them?

tensile strength
ARP "PRO" 220,000PSI
Katech 260,000PSI

As for the best place to buy, either directy from Katech http://www.katechengines.com/street_...etail.php?id=5
Or I bought mine from Katech off Ebay, they have a store on Ebay that sells them all the time. I belive they are both the same price, but that way I got one more positive rating on my Ebay profile.
