Default 918's

They are good for .600, how safe is it to run them at there limit. Say a cam with high 580 to mid 590 lift. Would they live long or would it be best to switch to 921's. One cam I was looking at had 595 598

i really don't know how long they would live at that lift. but me personally i'd rather have more in excess than live on the edge. but then again, a lot of manufacturers underrate what their product can do. so maybe 918's can handle the lift being that high all the time.

600 lift is coil bind at installed hieght, I checked it on a set of spair heads I have.

The closer you get to the limit the faster they wear out. I would get a set of Patriot Dual golds or something like it, just think if you break a spring you drop a valve and well you know what happens when that occurs, with duals you got an extra spring to cat the valve. I went with 918s for the 6L build since its a mid 550s lift cam and I got a damn good deal on the springs otherwise I would have a set of Patriot Dual Golds, they come with titanium retainers all for 250 which is a damn good price for what you get.

i have 918s and rev as high as 7k a few times. my cam is the TSP TV2 which is 232/234 595/598 112 and i have over 7k in miles since may when i put this together.

its not always about lift its about lift and duration also, and not only that but about the type of lobes youre using

Thanks I just wanted to see how some other people felt about this. I pretty much feel the same way as goshawk and 1slow on this.

small duration+high lift=hell on small springs
large duration+high lift=not easy on small springs

There are people hitting 40K plus on 918s, me personally I wouldnt do it, its just an easy preventative maintenance thing IMO.
