6.0 problem flexplate wont turn
#21
ok guys,
so he had to have turned to motor after installing everything. i mean, every mechanic would do that rightt??? how many miles on the motor? it basically has to be your flexplate. drop your trans and take off your flex plate. then try. That could help you troubleshoot.

Yes while the engine was out, i installed cam/springs/pushrods. I spun it to make sure the dots lined up ect. But once we put it back it it didn't want to spin (trans was out) Now i took the rockers/pushrods and cam gear out and its the same. The flexplate was torqued to spec. I double checked it and its put on the right way. Going to take the intake off and see if anything is wrong. Engine has 55k miles. It was running very good when we pulled it out of a truck. Might it be that somehow we bent the crankshaft while dropping it in or something?

You would have had to work pretty damn hard to bend the crankshaft. Will it not turn either direction? Man this is weird. If you dropped something in the engine it should still turn one direction. Can you take some pics?

I seriously doubt it is the valve train... but You never know. have you eliminated the chance of the converter and flew plate being in a bind? Im sure the starter is out of the way correct?

Starter is out. It was stuck even without the tranny being bolted up. We dropped the engine in so we took it down to a shop so they could put on the tranny. Then the guy calls me and says the engine wont turn. So i get there and like he says the engine doesn't want to turn, even with the tranny out. I thought it might of been something simple so i had him bolt it up anyways. Just not with the converter bolts. So we took it back home. I got under and it doesnt look like the flexplate and converter are binding or anything

What size cam and what length pushrods are you using?
Also, what cam install guide did you use, if you used one?
But like said above, I don't think this is in the valvetrain since you loosened the rockers and pulled the pushrods. Did you drop a lifter down into the oil pan? I did on my old motor and I tried turning it by hand and the lifter was wedged between the block and the crank and would cause it to do what you're saying, but you could hear that something was loose in the block.

Yea cam tuned fine ect. We got the texas speed package 232/234 598 lift with 7.4 hardened pushrods and comp 918's. Ive done about 7 cam/spring swaps and always used the ls1howto guide. Took the intake off and nothing seems out of place.

If the cam gear is out, all of the valves are closed, and the engine still doesn't turn, then either the crank is seized/stuck somehow, something is jammed against a rod (lifter?) or the flywheel is binding somewhere.
