Right, but it is common to get pistons made for the SBC rods with the .927 journal. The cost of the pistons is the same, and it gives you a ton more options for rods.

I went with standard rods for the larger.945 journal. I'm sure that small amount won't make any difference, but i wanted this motor strong anywhere possible.

I'm not sure if you just had a typo but to clarify the gen 3 rods (6.098 & 6.275) have a .945" wrist pin and the gen1&2 (since 1955) SBC have a .927" wrist pin. The 6.125 rod is an aftermarket gen 1 rod that uses the old style .927 wrist pin. You can get pistons made to fit just about any combo but just cost more. Hell, you could probably put a briggs and stratton rod in a sbc.
And you could hone a sbc rod out to the .945 pin or re-bush a gen3 rod to use a .927 pin. The .027" difference in pin height would need to be accounted for as far as compression changes or have the pin height moved in the piston. Ok, i'll quit rambling now.

Many guys spinning them to 6500+. I wouldn't want to turn it above 6000 on a regular basis without rod bolts but that is just a gut feeling I have for reliability.

I think you got a winner there

And for what its worth, about spinning the engine too fast, the LS2/LQ9 share the same rods, use the same rod bolts. 6500 rpm redline is defiently within reason, assuming good quality valvesprings

I spun my stock LQ4 up to about 6700rpm's a few times. But, one of the piston wrist pins siezed (evil pressed pins), and beat things up a bit, but i dont know whether that was a result of my oil pressure problem, or a result of overrevving.

Those would give you 9.9:1 with 317 (6.0 71cc) heads and 11:1 with 4.8/5.3 (61cc) heads.
