5.3 Zo6
#32
sounds like a draw
... I havent personally ran one in my 5.3 but I do know a guy with one in his 4.8 here locally who loves it. The only downside is that its designed around the use and weight, and gearing of the Z06... going in a heavy *** truck, you'd likely need a stall converter around 2800 or so to make up for the loss of the lower end power.

Why can't we all just get along
I apologize for any insulting I may have done. I have already given my opinion of this cam, as it makes some damn good power on the top end especially with FI and it's cheap. But I stand by my technical end of this argument, sorry, I'm not gonna budge on that one.

Seriously though I don't know if you're planning any type of FI, but as far as a budget cam goes, STS and Magnuson recommend this cam. It does very well with boost due to its wide LSA. If its not quite enough for you then the Lingenfelter's GT2-3 cam would be a good choice.
If your pushrods are too short, then you'll know. When you're adjusting the rockers, it'll be obvious when the pushrod is loose when you reach the proper torque. I wouldn't sweat it though, because hyd. lifters have plenty of play due to various tollerances with other engine components (deck height, cyl. heads, valve seat location, valve length, p-rods, cam bore location etc.) It all creates tollerance stack-up and that's one of reasons hyd. lifters were invented.
Right now there are a couple BRAND NEW z06 cam kits for sale over at ls1tech.com for a little over $300 for the cam and springs (these WILL need to be changed). Like stated earlier though you can score a used one for around $100.

there always Z06 springs over on eBay too for around 50 bucks... there's actually a lot of good parts over there if you find them right... just watch out for the guys selling junk or cheesy stuff.
