OP - You know that a stock setup the motor has 295HP at the crank, not at the wheels right? Depending on your truck (2wd or 4wd) You're probably looking at closer to 220-240 at the rear wheels.

Getting 200 more ponies out of a 5.3 is going to take boost or nitrous. No way around it. Either one is going to affect your cam, exhaust, and intake selection.

So you need to decide if you want to stay NA or boost it, or gas it. Then we can kinda help show you the way.

You did not mention what engine your truck has so I will assume 5.3 with a 4L60 transmission, I would upgrade to a 4L80 and seriously consider the LSA supercharger or TVS 1900. My truck has a Radix MP112 I wish I had the TVS 1900 or LSA, cooler air intake temps and more power. You will for sure need to do something with the tranny if you do have a 4L60. You can buy complete supercharger kits from Magnuson, Edlebrock and others as well, I can only speak for the Magnuson, mine was a very complete kit and easy to install.

I'm going to go ahead and reiterate what was said, this is probably one of the most polite and responsive forums I have EVER been on across multiple platforms. So do your due diligence and learn as much as you can before asking a question. Because over at LS1tech they won't be so polite. But good luck on your search for what you want!

I would highly recommend something in the 220 range as far as cams go. A set of gears would also be something to look at to make it have more get up and go.

I'd like to politely point out that the bulk of this conversation is from 2012!

Like the creater of this thread I am new to this and cannot seem to find the 'NEW THREAD' button anywhere, maybe you will be able to give me a little insight? I dont really have a hp goal, i basically just want to make people be like "damn, LIFTED and Fast!" So I have a 00' silverado with the LM7 (5.3) im no expert on alot of motor works. but i am planning on building the motor up. i talked to a guy from Texas Speed and after recomending the following for the best HP, Torque, and overall performance this is what I have come to conclusion in doing. cold air intake, intake manifold, exaust with X-Pipe, 220/220 .600/.600 LSA100 cam, long tube headers, 3200 stall converter, 105mm throttle body, electric fan kit. now i want to do this right so i will not have any problems down the road so money wont be a problem. i just want to be able to say it is natually asperated 'for now', so no forced induction kits on this one. So if you know of anybody else gone through something similar to this and if so, would you recommend me to their page? And if you know, to what specs should i get the heads bored/polished to? any and all input is very helpful! thank you.

To be honest man if you want to be lifted and quick you need to ditch the 5.3, my truck has a 5.3 and a customer came in the other day with the same truck as me and it was lifted with off road wheels and tires. Looked like about 33". And that truck was dog *** slow.

With having as much truck as you do you'd be a lot happier if you 6.0 swapped it and did a mild cam with some 243 heads. A 6.0 isn't super expensive, the 243 heads will do real well and cost you about $400. You can throw everything you want at that 5.3 but nothing will change that it still just a 5.3. I'm in the same boat as you man, I have a good sized heavy truck and there's only so much a 5.3 can do.

Or let me put it this way, you could go faster for less money if you do a 6.0 over a 5.3, that's why I plan to 6.2 swap my truck instead of doing heads cam on the 5.3.

You could get a 6.0 block and bore it out a bit and use $400 heads and absolutely **** all over a 5.3 with 2,000 dollar heads..

Take it from me, dont bother trying to make a lifted truck quick unless you want to spend alot of money. I have had many many many setups. I have actually done the 5.3, tsp 220 cam, prc 2.5 heads, nnbs intake, 3200 converter thing. Yeah it was more fun then stock but it wasnt that quick.
Hell I am hoping to go 10s this season being lifted but after this season I am done wasting money on trying to go fast lifted.

If you want to be big and be fast you need a big motor or boost or both. But I agree it's reaaaaallll expensive trying to move a ton of weight quickly with a small motor
