5.3 performance mods
#11
yeah i've been look'n around. i've seen a couple 5.3's with a zo6 cam swap that would be quite nice. and as far as stall goes i'm lean'n toward 3200, LT headers, k&n, 2.02 aluminum heads for a better lope while idle'n. any input on the zo6 cam in the 5.3?

The stickys are the posts located at the top of any forum segment, they literally say sticky: How to select a cam, for instance. They contain threads that have been "stickied" to remain at the top to make them easy to find for everybody. They contain pertinent information to questions that are asked most often.

The LS6 cam has been used by some members, and they saw some decent gains, around 15-20 RWHP I beleive. There's no such thing as a 2.02 aluminum head. I'm assuming you mean a set of heads with a ported 2.02 intake valve. While heads would be a good investment, they don't really affect how your truck lopes at idle. That's all in what cam you get, and the tuning. A LS6 cam is known as a sleeper cam. It's on a 116 (IIRC) LSA, and doesn't lope in a 5.3 much if at all.
Your lope is caused by valve overlap. With a 3200 stall, assuming you're on stock wheels and tire heights, as well as 3.73 gears, I would say get something like a Comp 216/220, a TSP 220 or a TR220 cam. You'll get more power out of them than you will with a LS6 cam.
You should do A LOT of reading in here first before making any quick decisions. When I joined, I didn't know anything about any of this. I read probably 50 threads about cams, and heads, looked over dyno sheets. Asked a lot of members a lot of questions, and watched videos before I ever even attempted to open my motor up and make the changes that I made.
Use the search at the top of the page and see what other guys are running, what dyno sheets there are out there for what you're wanting to do, and then make your decisions. It's the best way to do it, in my book.

I can tell that you're new to this game, and so I'll tell you this nicely before some of the "seasoned" members come in and give you all kinds of hell.
