Default 4.8 cylinder head choices?

whats up everyone? had a few quick questions reguarding cylinder heads. first of all whatre some of you guys running on your 4.8's? im kind've stumped at the moment on what head id like to go with. i had my mind set on the prc stg 2.5 cylinder heads from tsp but one of my local friends with a nasty tbss made it seem like they wernt in my best interest. the prc's flow graphs look pretty close to what the ls1 afr mongoose heads flow but as always ya cant go on whats advertised. i was just curious what some of you guys were running and thatve had good luck with or what youd all reccomend. also with whatever cylinder head i was going to go with i was going to have them milled to increase compression even more, and run a cometic .40 compressed thickness HG

thanks in advance

tj

Your friend is right. Those heads are geared more toward an LS1 with a larger bore. With the smaller bore of the 4.8/5.3 you would be better served to look at something with a slightly smaller Intake valve.

Try Scrogin Dickey or West Coast Cylinder Heads.

They both offer stage 2 CNC head's starting at $899 that are geared tword the smaller displacement of the 4.8/5.3L.

the prc' stg2.5 are listed under a 5.3 head, its an 862 casting which is the same as whats on my truck at the moment, thats why i was confused to why they wouldnt work well but if its too much valve for what i got i cant do **** about it. but ill fersure check out those other brands, im definitley liking the price a little better lol

Thanks 1FastBrick!

We offer a CNC Ported "5.3" heads assembled with w/ .570" lift LS6 springs and factory LS1 valves (2.00"/1.55") that are more suited for small bore applications. They are $999.50 for the pair, in stock and ready to ship!!!

I personally gained 70rwhp with these heads, our HT1 cam, and LT headers on my 5.3 Silverado.

Flow numbers and more information can be found HERE. Give me a call, PM or e-mail if you have any questions or would like to place an order!

thanks beau the help is much appreciated! once ive got the money in hand ill be givin ya a call/pm. at the moment im just trying to get a list evertyhing gathered together before i start ordering. also what valve springs are offered with these heads? or are they all set up with ls6 springs? ive got pac1218s at the moment and would like a .650 rated spring so i can go to a higher ratio rocker. and those are some impressive gains for the supporting mods and milder cam. hopefully with my 228r itll be a good match up

They are equipped with LS6 but we could certainly swap out a .650" lift dual kit for you. I think you would really like the gains from these heads, especially with the gear and converter setup you have.

Thanks!

No Problem Beau!!!

To the OP.

The PRC's are listed as a 5.3 head because they use a 5.3 casting. How ever they way there ported, they were really designed for the 5.7 guys. That's why they use the larger intake valve. Look at how they achieved there flow numbers. They used a 2.02 intake 1.57 exhaust and flowed it on a 3.910 bore with no pipe. I am sure there a great budget head for the 5.7L. IMO if they even fit on a 5.3 there going to stall down low.

SDPC and WCCH both designed there head package to work correctly with the small bore of the 5.3/4.8. The best part is, there Both Priced Right!!! You can easily be upwards of $500 in a set of stock heads with the machining and the parts used here. It really goes to show the Value your getting with a package like this.
