It is a neat idea! But like others said by de-stroking it you are taking away the 6.0L tq. I would make a badass high rev boost motor for a turbo kit. I have seen several of these motors online and 1 in person make 800-1100 hp with 15-22psi of boost which is impressive considering falcos 402 on 24lbs is only making 1100 hp < this might be at the wheels though not sure.

If your using it for n/a I wouldn't do it. For the price in valve train and build you could almost by a turbo kit and few 4.8/5.3s to blow through with high boost

I built a bone stock 5.3 with balances rotation, rod bolts , 317 heads stock valve train with good spring and a good cam , constant flow alcohol injection “home built” for a asphalt sprint car and I could turn it to 8200 rpms - yes it made me nervous but it can handle it for short bursts most of the time I ran it at 7500 - I am in the middle of figuring out the short stroke big bore 7.0 block 4.8 crank I need pistons if anyone knows a good shell piston hit me up

i remember asking about doing a 329ci / 5.4L high-revver a long time ago, and got all the same sense talked into me as above.

to dispel any "fake news" here: take a 4.8 and increase stroke to make a 5.3... then increase a 5.3's bore to make a 6.0

theoretically no...
compression can be manipulated with pistons (dish, flat, dome), head gasket thickness, head chambers, and even valve events.
and though you're making less torque, if you make it at a higher rpm (say 9000 [which = big $$]), you could still have a higher peak HP
it's the same way the difference between a 500hp Corvette & a 500hp Civic = ~100lbft & 2000rpm. so take that corvette's 420tq & make it at 8300rpm instead of 6300, and you'll end up with 660hp.
so if you take this motor making ~375tq up to 9000 = 640hp

that'd be a screamin 349! good luck!
i do remember seeing an LSX454 C6 vette on the youtubes that turned about 8500, and it was even meaner

PS - this thread started in 07, and nobody's read it since '13

I’m hoping one of you can help me with this:
I found this article
4.8L Crank + LS3 Block: How to Build an 8,000 rpm LS Destroker - Hot Rod Network
and was intrigued enough make me put a hold on finding an l92 to replace my 5.3

This would go in my daily driven nnbs crew cab 1500 2wd.
I’m much more into the driving experience rather than worrying about hp numbers.
With that said, it seems like building a high revving destroked ls3 would suit my needs..BUT clearly I’m wet under the ears and would like to hear people’s opinions and experiences.

My long term goal is to build the truck into a highway cruiser that loves 2000 RPM’s, and can handle 8000+ RPM’s at will. 90% of my driving is highway, which is why this option seems viable. I’m not trying to race anyone stop light to stop light. It’s a heavy pig, I don’t tow anything, and am not trying to complete to be the fastest.

I want something that puts a smile on my face when I want it to.

Am I crazy to consider this idea for what I’m trying to achieve w/o forced induction or power adders? Less parts= less problems IMO.

The engine would be built over time not over night. I’m fortunate enough to have a LMG 5.3 that refuses to die. The truck currently has a built 4l65e w/ 2600 stall & 14bolt s/f out back.
It is a flex fuel truck, and will receive upgraded fuel system and 4l80e before anything with over 400whp is put up front.

Let me know what ya’ll think. All comments/opinions are valued. Thanks!
