216/220 vs 228/230 vs 227/231 cam?
I have a 5.3 with a set of ported heads and on the flow bench my heads flowed 305/220. I had a 216/220-560/560 114 lsa tfs cam. My buddy talked to the head porter that did my heads he told him that a lunati 227/231-612/617 cam would be the best for that set up. Ok I think my 216/220-560/560 cam is to small for my heads they have 2.02/1.60 valves and I was thinking about doing a cam swap and have Ben looking at a tfs 228/230-585/585 112 lsa. With those two cams being so close to the same I think it would come down to cost. Don't want to over cam my 5.3 but don't want to under cam it either.

So some important factors are unrelated to the motor or heads.
What gears, tire size, stall speed, vehicle weight, purpose and use of vehicle.
With a 5.3 no matter the setup with a 227+ duration cam I would recommend at least a 3400 stall. I personally would go a little small duration wise. 224/228 .581/.581 LSA 112 is a proven track winner. It works great for stout 5.3 builds while staying street friendly. The TFS 216/220 is much more mild.

Stock 3.42 for now. But I have a FTI 3200 stall. The truck is kinda a daily but more for fun. Tires I have on right now are 265/65/18. I think they are around 31 inches tall. But soon will get new tires.

The 216/220 would be ok with a smaller converter and 3.42s, but changing to 4.10s would help a lot. My truck with a 228/228 112 and stock converter with 4.11s is a little weak down low but pulls hard up top. With the 3800 converter I used to have, it hauled ***.

Well the 216/220 cam is ok but I feel there is alot more get with a bigger cam. A 3200 is ok but I feel I should have whent 3600 or 3800 stall. For now im going to rock whatt I got. When it is time to get a new cam I want it to keep the torque but get more hp up top. 224/228 might be what im looking for. I might call up for a good custom grind cam.
