Default 12 second 5.3 truck N/A? Possible?

Getting things together (mostly money) to throw a cam in my truck. A little background on the truck: 2006 Regency RST 5.3/60e combo. Truck currently has 1 7/8 Speed Engineering long tubes and Speed Engineering true dual 3" exhaust and tuned. Truck is getting a 3500 stall and a 40k cooler this weekend. Plans are to swap to a 4.30 gear as well either after stall is installed, or after the cam. Truck is my daily which most of my commute to work is about 5 minutes if I'm stuck in traffic (no joke). Looking for something that pulls pretty good in the mid range and top end. I think the gear and stall on a 29" tire will help from a dig. I want to rev to 6300-6400 roughly, not rev to the moon. I think the first two options will help with that while the EPS will die off a little earlier. Thoughts?

Tick Performance SNS TorqueMax: 223/227 | .610"/.590" | LSA111+2

TSP 223/226 .600"/.600" with optional LSA from 111 to 114

EPS Truck Torque 2 218/226 .595"/.598" 113 LSA

I feel like any of these will perform well given the stall converter and gears. I would also get around to the TBSS intake manifold as well, but probably stick with the 862's on it. Any feedback on these? Lookin to make my RCSB a rowdy single cab on the streets and maybe the track.

My buddy did a gen 4 flat top 5.3, Milled 862, 4.11s full bolt ons, stalled 60e,in his 05 rcsb on slicks went a 13.2, but he only had a 3200 converter. I think with a 3800-4K his set up would of dipped in the 12s NA

Nice. 60e/80e versus the new 6/8/10 speed make it much tougher to get there. My stall is a 3500 11". Once I throw more power at it I hope to be in the 37-3800 range but I'm unsure if that's realistic or not. I might look at some port work on a set of 706/862's which generate really good power and seem to be overlooked versus the 243's. Stock cam in his or what was the specs? Hell even low 13's aint bad at all

his cam was a 224 something and I think he also had a tbss intake now that I think about it. He ended up going 80e and lq9 but hasn’t ran it yet.

Nice. I think the Tick should do pretty well with what I have in mind. I have a ls3 in the garage but I'm trying to save it for my 96 truck for LS swap. I think I can be decently happy with this little 5.3 with the plans I have in mind. Not even sure if it'll make it to the track but It would be fun to run some bracket stuff at my local track or see how each upgrade effects the truck.

A buddy of mine runs 12.9-12.8’s with an OBS with a 5.3/799 heads,224???228 cam, TBSS intake,1.750 long tubes, a 3200??? Maybe 3000 stall with a 60e,3:90.1 gears on a DR........That’s about the best she’s got in her..... my friend is also about 300 lbs.

I got my 02 LQ9/60e/224/228 TSP cam, 1.750” LT with 243 heads/tbss intake 4:56 geared truck with 30” DR’s into the 12.4’s

So it is definitely possible

As for your gear and tire size, the 60e first gear will be useless, you will be able to smoke the tires forever and into the next gear

Haha I figured that! Which is cool, but not helpful. I still think about a 4.10 which isn't too much different. I have 3.73's now from factory. My 96 is getting prepped for a ls3. Looking to go full race truck on that build. Should be fun. But I think I might take truck to track after each upgrade to see what it runs. Never been to the track. Don't plan to go though until I put a different tire on it. its on a 265/35/22 now.

I've had a bunch of guys run 12's with NA 5.3 Reg cabs like that with my 221/224, 108 lsa, and 224/227/108 lsa camshafts and basic boltons with 4.10's and 3600 yank or Circle D converters. 6400 rpm is a bit on the low side tho, NA 5.3's don't get too excited down low.. . Milled and ported heads with tbss intake helps a bunch but has also happened with stock intake and heads. Having suspension dialed in with right converter is key.

Spoke with JFR last night and seem pretty dead set on 220/226 on a 108 LSA.. Should be pretty rowdy and make solid power!
