But they did switch to the E78A controller which is why it did cost 4 credits.

I had an optioned out 04 SLT and didn't want to lose all the options, I picked up a 2014 optioned out SLT, even stock it feels like it'll walk my light mod/tuned 04 that ran pretty good.

I've been impressed with the 6L80, it's far stronger than the 4L60. Buddy has a service truck that weighs 9,000 pounds with a 230k mile 6L80 and he said he's never changed the fluid on it (bad plan and we talked about it but it says something for that trans)

I looked at denali's for a long time for the same reasons you are but realized a higher option SLT is essentially the same truck. And I ended up not really wanting the magnetic ride control stuff on the denali, I looked up prices of replacement struts and they're really high. And the standard stuff rides really good. The 5.3 has a lot more ***** than the 5.3 you're used to and I love the 6 speed. 1st gear is way shorter than with the 4L60 and even stock the truck has no problem blowing off the rear tires and getting sideways.

I wanted a 6.2 real bad also, but I decided to back away from high payments. The lower cost denali's are 5.3 denali's if you look for used ones. I ended up with a 5.3 high option SLT (a/c seats heated wheel lane assist crash avoidance etc etc) and I'm happy with it since it's far better than the 04, and it has plenty of room to grow. I only paid 23,800 for mine.

There is a dude on here with a K&N drop in filter, muffler swap (neither should have added much power) and a tune running 13.9-14.1 with a 5.3. I want to do headers and tune, already have K&N cold air, a mid to high 13 second truck is enough to make me happy. And later on maybe I can swing a cam and stall, should be a solid mid 13 truck then. All that would be amplified with a 6.2 obviously.

It's only a protocol change.. they operate and function identically. Welcome to the modern age lol.

I went the other way, my 14’ was ehhhh. Not a fan of the 6l80 as gm programming sucks, and the 5.3 was just so so. Power was ok at best, fuel mileage was good.

I jumped ship and have never looked back, My new truck has more room and rides better, on top of that it runs circles around what my 14’ would do and the 10spd and Fords programming is way better. Gm needs to get their **** together and stop programming the trucks like ****.

I expect big things then. Sorry but I Couldn’t stand the way the 6spd shifted, then I drove the new 10spd in the ford and it put a nail in the coffin for me. I am curious what gm does with the new 10spd but I hope they dont follow their past tendencies. The 6spd always acted busy and confused.

Was yours tuned? When mine was stock the trans didn't bother me but I only had it a few months before it was tuned and I really didn't drive it many different situations to where I would notice the funkiness if there was any. The tuning made the trans better, but I personally didn't hate it before. I will say there was a learning curve going from having several 4L60 vehicles prior to the 6L80

As far as the eco boost vs the 5.3, the ecoboost is hard to compete with for low end tq and take off. But after tuning my 5.3 is blows the tires off with ease and pulls nice. But mine pulls considerably harder now than stock too. I run E85 at pretty much all times, and with the tune, K&N, straight through muffler swap and flap delete, it's a different feeling truck.

With all that said, Ford has come a long way, and while I couldn't own one after working on them all the time, their newer trucks have had me seriously on the fence.

Just a characteristic of clutch to clutch transmissions and meeting the expectations of the masses. That said, I don't work on trans software...so can't blame me
