I was surprised by this too, but it makes enough sense. Ford's V8s have always been big and heavy, so by comparison this is probably pretty compact. I am a little surprised that it's port injected. This is 1980's production engine technology. It should be super reliable though--which from a warranty standpoint is probably another motivator for Ford.
