Default Started 6l80 tranny swap today

Well I have been thinking and talking about this swap and I finally started this morning. It has been a long first day. I am at the point where I only have 4 bolt left in the bellhousing to remove to get the 4l60 out. I am starting fresh tomorrow morning. IAfter the tranny is out I need to also do the oil pan gasket and rear main seal. I have a new harness that will need 3 connectors changed before the new tranny goes in. The MAF, MAP, and starter relay.

Now the question I have for anyone, is there a trick to getting the top bellhousing bolts out, they have been a real pian.

I will try and get some pics posted once I get a little further into this swap.

Tilt trans down as far as it will go and take out a 24 or 36" extension and 13mm semi deep swivel socket and get the nuts off then switch to a 15mm semi deep swivel socket and get the bolts.... If you dont have the semi deep swivels, universal and shallow thirteen usually works and a deep fifteen!! What you doing the swap in??? I am looking at doing the same thing in my 08 yukon except i am swapping a 6.2 in with it as well!!!

Typically the oilpan is easier to do with the trans in place, but since youll have rear cover off trans needs to be off just dont fully tighten the rear cover until the oilpan is flush against the block... It will leak between them if they arent aligned properly.... If youre 4wd or awd you need to drop front diff to get pan out....

Well, I have the tranny in and everything but the trans cooler lines are hooked up and plugged in. I just need to get a bolt to attach the cooler lines to the trans. Also, I did a bunch of measuring and my drive shaft is 3" to short. The yoke is in the trans just not very far. As for the harness I used I needed to change 5 connectors in total. One more thing about the harness, it doesn't have a plug for my low oil sensor, so I am going to see if the effects the way it runs.

Anyways, I just finished cleaning up for the day, and so tomorrow begins the programming phase. I have access to Tis2Web for the base tuning, then HPtuners for the tweaks. I there anything I should be looking for when tuning?

I will give an update tomorrow.

It is going into 07 nnbs crew cab. Measured a 3rd time and the tranny is 1 to 1.5 inches shorter then the 4l60 that I took out. I am going to measure the driveshaft one time after the truck is on the ground and hopeful more than half the yoke will be engaged into the transmission.

Your truck is 2wd right? Did you get the yoke for the 6l80?

Yes it is a 2wd and I did get a yoke from chevy. The machined part is 6 inches and right now it is about 2 inches onto the output shaft.

https://www.powertraincontrolsolutio...Dimensions.pdf This maybe somewhat helpful, looks like you are likely to need a new driveshaft...

Is the 2 inches at ride height or with the rear axle hanging?
