Pinion looks too deep. And too tight of backlash. I always shoot for .008".
Need better pictures of the pattern.

Would it even be worth the time trying to sell my old locker and 3.42s?

Being we are in Canada a good chunk of PT.net will not buy from you...... but if you toss it on Kijiji some fool will buy them.

And I see you already have, lol.

3.42 gears /w factory g80 Eaton locker. Chev or gm 8.6" / 8.5" - Alberta Transmission, Drive Train For Sale - Kijiji Alberta Canada.
haha ya I did, I found a mobile app so it really didnt take me any time to do it. I figured its worth a try and if it sells even for $100 thats great, if not it'll collect dust anyways.
I'm sure someone will want the carrier someday

I am getting ready to do a truetrac and gears in my 2010 and heard the carrier bearing is something different or special in size in the 2010 and up applications. Did you run into this with the aftermarket carrier and if not could you let me know the install kit you purchased so I can get the right one. Thanks

It's not to late to trade that truetrac for a locker haha.

The ONLY difference about our diffs is the bearings. When ordering your bearing kit it is for a GM 8.6" diff. Everything else is the same as a 8.5". I ordered the 8.5" 28 spline carrier and then a master set of gears and bearings and shims from Ron's machine service.

Let me know how your old pinion bearings are to take off to get at the shim. I broke a bearing splitter on mine and had to cut it off that's how stuck on they were

Yea I have actually been doing more reading after going through your thread. So the 2005-2008 8.6 bearing kit (for example) would be the same kit for the 2010.. I wonder if that is only if you reuse the stock carrier? Maybe Ill call randy's tomorrow to see if they can share some input. So far this is what I have purchased and getting all my ducks in a row for the first week of Jan.

8.25 ifs 4.88 Gear
Front Yukon install kit
Yukon says the 2010 front carrier has a different deck face and needs swapped to an older style so I ordered this
8.25 ifs carrier from them
Yukon 8.25 ifs Spanner wrench set
8.6 rear gear
Yukons specific rear gear install kit for a 2009 and up 8.6, once again I need to find out if this is only for a factory carrier or if a different kit is needed for a detroit locker or truetrac
And thanks to you either this Truetrac or this Detroit Locker thanks for helping my indecisiveness. LOL

I would definitely give them a call cause they'd know more about what exact parts are needed.
i'd be curious to know why yukons stuff is so special it requires its own bearings and what not.
I'm not to familiar with the front diffs but the one I did in school was with shims and you had to check pattern and backlash threw the vent hole...not fun haha
I was in your shoes too, everyone says OH get the true trac but I kept seeing horror stories of them wearing out after 30,000 miles.
the locker is EXTREMELY drivable!!! my only complaint at first was the clunk from reverse to drive which is normal, AND if I drive like a teenager heavy throttle and tight turns it'll clunk to unlock and clunk to lock. Ive never heard it ratchet on turns or shimmy the truck when locking and its never skipped the inside tire on turns however i've read on short wheel bases like jeeps...the locker isnt to awesome on the street
