first 1/4 mile runs
Well, I have a baseline for the new truck: 15.2 @ 90 mph.
This is with 4,200 miles on it; 5,900 lb. at the highway scale on the way to the track; 84 degrees; running in "Drive," and launching in 4wd so I wouldn't chew up those expensive tires. I wanted something to compare the tune and any other future mods to, more than to see how well I could launch it. I had tried a 2wd launch a couple times before I went to the track, and wheelspin was enough to kick in the traction control and bog everything down.
I'm pretty happy, but it was breaking up a little above 5500 so I think I'm going to go in and bitch to the dealer. I don't want to get a tune until everything's running as good as it can strictly stock.
It's been 40 years since I drag raced anything, so it felt pretty good to be back. I liked my best reaction time (.199) but don't even ask me what the worst one was!

cool not bad times for stocker.
I found that until my truck got in the 450ish up hp range I didnt have enough power to warrant a 4x4 launch it was faster in 2wd and easing the throttle down.
Also you might want to rethink crying the blues at the dealer about the rev limiter they make notes of that stuff. And they are most likely not going to change it get a tune now best mod you can do.

great baseline Phil. maybe you can try to go out again and run 2wd just to see the difference. lower the air pressure in the rear tires to around 27 lbs. i'm going to wait till it gets cooler to take mine to the track for it's baseline.

I know that tuned 2wd 6.2s are in the 13s from a few posts I've seen here so I would agree that the factory tune really holds these trucks back, besides the obvious weight issue.

tallbluslpr: Once I get a tune I could see myself getting enthusiastic to see what I can really wring out of it, and practicing a little in 2wd to get a feel for easing into it. Thanks for the encouragement.
blucajun5.3: 27 lb in the tires should make quite a difference, that's a good thought. Mine are at about 42 warm.
There was a guy there in a 6.1 Charger, running right at 13.9 - 14.0. He asked how I was doing and I told him 15.2 and his eyes bugged out. "That thing's so big all it needs is a turret and it would qualify as a tank - that's a FANTASTIC time!"
Rrrrroger that.
