Justin could probably send you a base tune to get you there. Or find a good shop close to your location. My tuner is about 10 minutes away but i can bring in my pcm and get a base tune put on it, put the pcm in my truck and drive it there for a dyno tune.

It's a lot more convenient to have someone local do the tuning as long as they know what they're doing.

your deletin the DOD, so that means your changing valley covers. the ecm will not be able to adjust oil pressure bc you wont have it hooked up. therefore as long as the cam isnt a monster 224+ you should be able to drive it as far as you want without using extreme acceleration/WOT. also unplug your MAF itll richen up plus itll make the o2s go into open loop and it wont know how much fuel to put so it adds a safer amount of fuel on its own.
youll be fine but HORRIBLE gas milege

There's nobody local that can do it? Not trying to take any business away from Blackbear, but in your situation it would definitely be ideal to have some local or at least closer than that do the tune.
It's two months out, Jul 17-18 so there should be enough time to get a base tune. I just emailed him asking if that was possible.

Well that's the point right there. I found a couple shops near me with chassis dynos, one of which uses HP Tuners which I would probably lean towards but I've never heard a single thing locally about their reputation for tuning.

Wouldn't the computer cut fuel and spark while the 4 AFM cyls are closed though? If the point is to deactivate the cylinder, close the valves, it wouldn't make sense to spray fuel onto a closed valve, right?

I wouldnt worry about it myself. As long as you get it started and its safely driveable so long as you dont beat on it your not going to damage anything ( providing the install was doen properly as in no ptv issues wtc. ) but nothing in running it mildly will hurt it. I've done a HELLA lot more than just a cam swap on LS engines and driven it before tuning without issue.

^That's what I'm thinking too. I really can't see the cam and headers affecting AFR to the point of risking detonation. I plan to drive around and key-reset it several times once I get it back together so the ECM learns and adapts to the changes.

I think you'll be fine at cruising speed.

Yeah man wouldnt sweat it. I did heads, decent sized cam, big injectors, intake manifold, throttle body, longtubes, completely new custom exhaust, etc etc basically everything and it drove pretty well surprisingly. My idle was pretty whacked out though. I had to drive about 45 mins to the dyno/tuner

That was five or six years ago and that same engine still runs mint.
