Default Cigarette lighter and ALDL power...........

Hey guys, I got my strategy together tonight and upgraded to HP Tuners 2.2 and MS .Netframe 3.0 and was al ready to take out the TM in Mom's Escalade. Lo and beholdthe compter sayd that device is detected but no poer from ALDL port, mkae sure key is in the ON position. Then it dawned on me because I had to power the computer from the wall socket as the cigarette lighter could not poer the unit.
So question is, is this infact correct, that the lighter and ALDL port are both powered by the same circuit, and where is the fuse................

DO NOT plug your laptop in and use your HP Tuners cable at the same time!

there should have been a warning slip with you cable and there is warnings all over the HP Tuners Forum, you can destroy the cable by doing this. The computer should be running on battery power.

Strange, I have done this forever when I had HPT and never had a problem. My cheap laptop battery wouldn't last longer than about 30mins so I always had it plugged in.
I bought one used so it didn't come w/ anything but even my brand new one I don't recall seeing that warning slip.
I not saying it won't happen just stating that it didn't happen to me.

Your laptop charger is okay to use, but you must plug it into a wall outlet. Power inverters give a "dirty" power supply that can damage your HPT cable.

Wow- thanks for the heads up. It's worked fine in my truck via the cig lighter all the time, mainly because also the battery in the lap top doesn't last for anything. Guess I'll connect the MPVI stand alone for a road scan...........

Just had my cig lighter fixed. Double fused. And took out the cig and put in a aux plug..
Make sure the wires aren't fried or touching

Guess I was just lucky. All I ever used was a power inverter.
