Default Cam Options (Over Done Thread)

I am looking for a good street strip cam with a noticable idle change. Proly run a stock converter or upgrade to a 2000-2500 stall and a good tune. Kind of a noob when it comes too cams.

These are the cams I am thinking of. Any other suggestions are welcome.

Running a stock converter is a very poor choice. Go with a 3600 stall and a 220 or 224 cam. That is about the most proven combo out there for a 5.3.

if you DD the truck 3000-3200 with a 220/224 .585.588 112+2 cam imo

i wouldnt go 3600 bc youll be so mad. peoples idea of the "Proven Cam/Stall combo" is a loose *** stall an a retarded cam. i DD a 3200 Circle D in my CC an i get 14.5-15.5 in city with 3:42s an i like to roll into the throttle to make the truck move. i get 18-20mpg on the hwy if i want. my CC has a best of 14.4 @ 94.89mph it
doesnt have a cam or gears or slicks. i think i can get a 13.99 with just a gear swap.

whats your 1/4 mile goal, or your HP goal?

i can yank a TSP228 5.3/60e ECSB w 3:73s an a 3200 stall out the hole an hold him to the middle of the truck. now on the roll of 70+ i struggle keepin up bc i dont have a cam.
its all in what you want man buy honestly a 3600 stall is not the answer.

Those first two from Comp are big for a heavy DD truck; it's fine when you drive a lighter car with manual tranny that likes to spin, but in heavy truck they will kill low end which is where you'll be spending the majority of your driving.

It's the duration numbers for intake at .050" lift, it's the most common number you'll see when searching for cams...when you hear someone recommend TSP224, that's a cam from Texas Speed with 224 degrees of intake duration at .050.

I'd recommend a converter with a flash stall around 2800-3200 if you keep the cam reasonable.
