I knew it was either 7 or 8% improvement. So it'll only take 10yrs to pay for a complete drivetrain swap, right?
Another 2 yrs to payoff truck, mods, & other bills. Then, just when it's right...my 04 will be 15 yrs old...& I can afford a TVS for it.

i was starting to lose hope in gm.... They at least see the need for the 6-speed.
now let's see if they actually do it.....

If I may just add this since it kind of fits this thread. Dealer friend of mine has a memo from GM issued a few days ago (dealer access website) saying what is new for 2009. under the Sierra tag it says "New 6 speed automatic transmissions available on 1500 Crew Cabs at SOP, will be rolled out to Extended & Regular cab models later in model year"

I highly doubt in the MY 2009 trucks the reg cab will get the 6-speed. I've seen the order guides and unless they changed things or decided otherwise, all it showed was 4L60e for RC's. They still have 4L60es standard on extended cabs, with the option of a 6-speed starting with the 5.3L.
I simply posted the info that was shown at the dealer only website. Take it however you wish.

Most here are more interested in the power gains of the 6.2 as i am but would also like to adapt the AFM from my 5.3 weather it is be lifters and programming needing to be swapped, or more??

What I meant was the E38 ECM has the fields to control the AFM option. The 6.2L block has the oil passages to support AFM. I believe the only reason AFM wasn't initially made available on the 6.2L/6L80E vehicles is because of the odd harmonic produced with the converter locked and in AFM mode.
You will need to transfer over your AFM lifters, the control solenoid and splice in the AFM wiring pieces. Here is a picture of the lifter valley of a 6.2L.
