Default 6L80 swap?

I thikn this may have been discussed before but has anyone heard of/seen anyone either adding the 6L80 to their NNBS trucks or doing like a 6.2/6L80 swap?

Since nobody else has replied I will throw in what I know. The 6.2L/6speed swap looks to be pretty much plug and play, all the pin connections in the underhood elec center are the same for my 5.3. Since the 6L80 has internal electronics mostly run by databus, that means if you can get the 6.2L/6speed with wiring harness and computer, should not be a big deal.

The unknown is how hard it will be to get the BCM programmed for the 6 speed. Since everything interfaces via databus not sure if gear selection will show properly, etc. The BCM for all trucks including current Denali is the same p/n so programming is only difference. Have to find a gm dealer willing to help out. 09's will have the this combo and 6.0L/6speed so hopefully wouldn't be a big deal.

The shift lever manual gear select is fairly easy if you want it, just a splice into the current harness should do it plus lever, etc.

Tranny crossmember might need small mod to support tranny mount, not sure. The 09's will have 6 speeds in two diff cabs (ext and crew) so a crossmember out of one of those should work as well.

Adding just the 6 speed is probably doable, but would be a lot of work as have to re-wire all the pins for the connectors. Not only that but being a clutch to clutch design the setup is fairly critical I have heard, and since GM does not offer a 5.3 with 6 speed right now not sure I would want to be the one to try and make it all work without frying anything. If you get it with engine as combo it would already be set up.

Thats all I know. There have been a few for sale and I am quite tempted to swap in the 6.2 combo. Not sure if voiding warranty is a smart idea right now. I do know a gentleman who put that combo in his earlier truck and he says it was a crazy ride, that low first gear (4.03) would be crazy off the line in a RCSB.

If you do a search there are other threads related to all this as well.

Yes, this really needs to be made more public. Looks like Wide Open has already done this swap, maybe he could chime in? My truck has 257000 kms on it, so it would be almost a necessity to do this swap I say!!

If doable, u need to start w/ NNBS. Wide Open has commented on this before. Search it too.

Do you mean this swap can only be done in an NNBS? Or that you need an NNBS donor truck? His profile says he has a 00 RCSB with all the good stuff. I just looked him up in the members list. I guess this thread asks about an NNBS, but hey, a 6L80E should make any truck cool

Having fuel system issues with the new wiring harness. It will be at least another week before I get back in town... Hopefully that will be the last issue.

OK thanks...I think lots of guys are waiting to see how it all panned out. All the diagrams, theory etc mean nothing compared to real world experience so looking forward to hearing about it . Don't be shy!!
