Default 08 Silverado steering pop

I've recently noticed a popping or clicking in my steering at low speeds and sitting still. I can turn the wheel left and right and hear it while not moving. I noticed it the other night while sitting in the drive through and could hear the popping next to the building. I checked power steering fluid and all was good. Everything is greased at every oil change. It is a 4x4 with 22s. If anyone has experienced this or has any idea where I should look I would greatly appreciate it.

I noticed that years ago when my truck was still brand new. Of course I just brought it back to the dealership then, they said they could never reproduce it. Figured if they couldn't find it and something broke someday, I could bring it back and get it fixed because it was never fixed before. It eventually stopped happening and I never got to bring it back.

Hopefully I have the same experience. Only mine is just starting to do it and it is now 3 years old.

I dont have any noise but I do have some slop in the steering, its not balljoints/tierods or anything like that, but it has a good half inch or so play in the wheel when you move it side to side.

I'll have to pay more attention next time i drive to see if it has any slop. I have noticed over the summer when i'm on the highway the steering wheel will feel like its sticking, and has some resistance on slight turns. Kind of hard to explain.

my first guess would be upper ball joints, as that is exactly what is going on with mine at the moment. pops when i turn the wheel and back up out of the driveway mostly. happens while turning either way, right or left.... ah good ol' gm making non-replaceable ball joints.... it's looking like it's time to replace those upper control arms at around $100 each depending on where you get them.

You can't just drill the rivets out anymore and bolt in replacements?

not entirely sure, but last time i checked them, i didnt see any rivets.... im not an expert by any means, but it looked like they were just pressed in with nothing else holding them in. ive googled countless times trying to find someone that had tried to swap the balljoints out, but sadly i have only found people that swapped the entire control arm. gm says that you have to swap the entire control arm, and it seems to be one of the few true statements that i have heard from them in a while...
