I bought a crank turning wrench from Summit. You can hook a break bar to it and it'll hold the crank.

A good impact will work. Also you could take the starter off and wedge the flexplate... in combination with leaving the belt on it should hold it. If the crank is broached or pinned buy a ARP bolt and rock on.

I always just wedged a long extension through the crank pulley and had someone hold it. Just an idea.

I use a strap wrench on mine. The smooth area between where the 2 belts go gives a good grip. I let the handle rest against one of the pulleys while I loosen the bolt or whatever you may be doing. Also a chain wrench with a piece of old belt to protect the pulley would work better. Much easier than dropping the starter to insert the tool.

If you take the starter down you can wedge a big screwdriver in the flexplate, done that before and it works fine. Make sure to unhook the battery first though or you'll see what welding with a 12V truck battery looks like.

You can also wedge a long extension or something else up in the inspection port of the transmission. It'll wedge up against a converter tab and hold things still.

It's too hot outside to be screwing around with a pulley right now, sorry.
