where can I buy a crank holding tool?

Grippy, what about using your newfound welding skills on a chopped up fexlate. Get a chunk of steel with the same bolt pattern as the starter. Arrange the two so that they hang out in the same general location as the starter. Weld the piece of the flexplateto the hunk of steel so that the teeth on the chopped up one engage the teeth on yours. Whamo - Done!

Oh, and removal of the crank bolt is easy....slide a 1" dia. pipe through the crank pulley, manuever it up beside the drivers side of the engine and let it rest on the crosmember. it'll prevent the pulley from turning perfectly and doesn't require removal of any other parts

grippy, what did you end up using to hold keep the crank from spinning while you removed the pulley bolt?

No wonder I've only been there in the winter.
Great idea! I may go this route for future use
