Default What oil? Tired of searching.......

So just tell me whats the best oil to put in my 5.3

I've looked at the Bob oil site or whatever and that just confuses me more.

I had this Amsoil guy come by my shop the other day and he suggested 0-30W. He said it would give me better performance than his 5-30W. Can someone shed some light on that?

I've also heard royal purple is good. I've been doing mobil1 but hear they changed their formula and it isn't as good as it used to be. I use the longer wix oil filters.

Oh and I'm at 60k now with no leaks.

I'm thinking of giving RP a try, having read nothing but positive things. I was also contemplating running 20-50 instead of the 10-30 M1 I have always used.

I haven't heard anything bad about RP or Amsoil (other than the price). They both look to be very good. I've been running mobile 1 myself and I'm thinking about switching to one of those.

If you do alot of drag racing i'd recommend RP or AmsOil. If its just your DD just use a synthetic oil. I personally use Valvoline Full synthetic in the Silverado and VR-1 in the Blazer.

I just use conventional Castrol GTX 5W-30 and change it every 3,000 miles. Synthetic oil (Royal Purple) destroyed the valve seals on my '78 Camaro's 350 crate motor. It only had 10,000 miles too. Yep, changing the valve seals is not bad but it sure pissed me off!! I had no problems until I used synthetic.

i use convential castrol gtx 10w30 now and might be switching to 5w30 but i see no reason to use synthetic when changing oil every 3kmiles or less

I've been thinking about trying that VR-1 oil, how do you like it?
