Default welding guys... exhaust???

I havent tried using the argon gas yet but have gotten decent with just the flux cored wire. Im thinking that I my take a shot at doing my own exhaust. I thought of cutting the y where it was welded to the headers and removing it all and then putting together a list of bends, matching them up and going from there. I was thinking 3" pipe with no cats to the Y then 4" out of the Y and into a 4" Magnaflow. What do do you think. Id probably use the L56 wire and argon gas and take my time. Then I was thinking I could coat it with some kind of enamel. Would that be possible?
Let me know what you think. I have a sneaking feeling that I wont be overly worried about my lowend with the new setup

i will tell you you will never weld with flux core again once you start welding with gas. you can do it. exhaust sux but is not that bad if you are able to tack it up and then take it off and weld it. good luck. o and it is gona suck if you are not doing it on a lift.

well i will tell you it takes skill to make a good cut with a porto band. sawsaw is ok in tite spaces. i will tell you what. i have been wanting to get this pipe cutter for a long time and it will work in tight places. it works like a tubing cutter (the kind with the wheels) but what it is is a pair of liers that has a chain on one end ant the other side has a little hook to catch the chain so you can adjust it. but on every link of the chain is a wheel (cutter). so you wrap it around the pipe and attach it to the other side of the pliers and pull tite and rotate. nice cut and wirks in tight places.

kind of hard to picture unless you have seen one. they are hard to find but if you go to oreileys and find some one who knows their stuff they can look it up in one of their catalogs. (THEY CAN ORDER IT) i will try to find one on the internet to show you. They are inexpensive compared to pover tools and will cut great. i still need to get one.

I welded some aluminized tubing with a gas mig, and the bead was really smooth and easy to control. I have no experience with flux core wire. Sorry.

The Gas mig was sure easy welding though. You can do it. just practice on some scrap with the same thickness and get your heat and wire speed set. Then go to town!

I used one of those when I did my AS&M's. Takes a loooonnnngggg time. I've been using a portaband almost daily for 14 years, so I guess it's easy to me.

Thanks for the help guys. The more experience I get with this welder, the easier the task seems. I'll keep you guys updated.
