Ford injects 'SVT' Adrenalin into Sport Trac, Mustang for this week's NYC debut

The Sport Trac demands attention with its aggressive styling, but won't hit the pavement for a few more days at least.
DEARBORN, Mich. — Ford restocks its SVT showrooms beginning this year with the top-of-the-line Mustang and a high-performance Sport Trac, both of which will be unveiled this week at the New York auto show.
It's even scheduling overtime through December at its Auto Alliance International plant in Flat Rock, Mich., south of Detroit to build nearly 200,000 Mustangs this year. Last year, the company built 112,000 Mustangs. The new Mustang convertible went into production in Flat Rock in February.
Although Ford is keeping details of the high-performance Mustang SVT secret until show time, it has provided a sneak peek of the Sport Trac Adrenalin. The concept is extremely close to the production version due in 2007, Ford confirmed, and it signifies SVT's return to performance trucks.
Phil Martens, Ford group vice president of product creation, said the Sport Trac Adrenalin combines the performance of the Ford SVT F-150 Lightning pickup truck, which is no longer sold, with the practicality of four-passenger seating, four doors, a pickup bed and all-wheel drive.
The Sport Trac Adrenalin is derived from the next-generation Sport Trac, which will debut in May 2007. The Adrenalin version, which will be introduced some months after the base model, features a 390-horsepower, 4.6-liter DOHC supercharged V8 paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive — a first for an SVT product — and AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control round out the package.
What it means to you: Ford is hoping its vaunted SVT squad can pump some enthusiast respect into it's overall product lineup. Given the popularity of the 2005 Mustang, they'll have at least one hit in New York

I'm tellin' you guys, it's going to be hard not to jump ship to Ford. They really have a hold on the performance market. I can only hope that a new Camaro comes out, and that it has a badass SS/RS option. Or maybe an LS2-powered RCSB SS Silvy.

I seriously would jump ship for one of these cars. GM continues to push the vette and while it is a great car it may not be practical for everyday. If the tag comes in under 40k you will see these cars go like hot cakes. I am still confused......why did GM abandon the muscle car??? I just hope rising fuel prices will not curb plans for such super muscle cars......the hp numbers are unreal these days. you ain't **** unless you are pushing 400hp......it's crazy

If you would have told me 5 years ago that a Mustang would be available with more HP than the standard Corvette, I would have laughed my *** off. I can't believe the stuff coming outta the Blue Oval camp. I can't imagine how badass the next L is going to be.
