Just a quick update as to this issue.

I came across this thread yesterday and it was a blessing.

For the longest time, my truck had the underhood/underdash thunk at low speed left turns. 06' ECSB

I took it to my local Chevy dealer at 7am right when they opened yesterday.
The service writer knew exactly what I was talking about and said they do a lot of them.

Anyhow, 45min later I was back on the road.
Quiet as a church mouse now.

Also, I spoke with the Tech that worked on it. He is one of the 9 World class techs that Red River Chevy has, so he knows his ****.

He said to always check the steering bushing also, that mine was quite worn, and they replaced it also. Something to have them check if you have yours done.

My dad has an 07'Classic that does this also, I plan on taking it in next week.

I must have missed it somewere but what happens when the I shaft fails? because i have a 07 classic and have noticed the clunking noise and feel it in the sterring wheel. The scary part is i have put 10,000 miles on it since the problem started.

Basically the grease inside the shaft acts as a insulating liner. Once the grease gets hot and runs out of the shaft, the inside shaft knocks against the bare metal of the outter shaft which is acting as a sheath.

I slammed my o2 silverado into the back of a f450 w/a utility body. After I rebuilt the front end the thumping was gone. I don't recommend this but it worked for me. No grease needed. lol

Ok, here it is!!! I had my I-shaft replaced twice because of some the steering making a clicking/ thumping sound. So on the second change, they also changed the bearing portion of the steering I-shaft. But the dam thing still makes clicking/ thumping sounds. It even feels like the whole front end is coming apart. Can anyone give me some advise or what to do? I'm getting pissed at the dam noise and the service department not fixing the dam thing. If they need to replace the washers or what ever, can I print out Torque Wrenchs' thread and show them what needs to be done? Help, noise is killing me. Thanks ahead.

Don't forget to lube yer ball joints. I know it's sounds so basic. But there;s a front plate ya need to take of to get to the las 3, technically you could do the 2 from the top, but one on the frame ya need to take this front plate off, it's secured with 5 15mm bolts. I'll try and get some pics up...........
