Stock muffler to Flowmaster muffler questions
#1
I am going to start of by stating that I may be posting in the wrong section...
What is the difference from a stock muffler to flowmaster muffler? (performance, mpg, sound, etc..)
What is the difference between a flowmaster muffler and a complete flowmaster exhaust system kit? (performance, mpg, sound, etc..)
If I were to get with an exhaust system kit if the benefits completely outweigh the additional $200 or so, I would go with dual exhaust.
I am looking to improve the torque of my truck and make the sound of my vehicle to sound like a truck.
I am not technically efficient in vehicle modifications so either way (muffler/exhaust system kit), I will be needing a mechanic for installation.
All thoughts are welcomed!

I am thinking going with this provided installation is affordable : Flowmaster/Exhaust System Kit - Performance (817395) | 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2WD 8 Cylinders T 5.3L SFI | AutoZone.com
It is dual exhaust and and has aggressive sound, which I am looking for!
Is paying the extra $80 worth it for the stainless steel compared to aluminized steel?

i would just get a magnaflow 3 inch inlet/outlet, 14 in length, to replace your stock muffler, have a piece of pipe added to make up for shorter length muffler and add a turn down. that should make it louder and give you best performance increase due to lack of curves after muffler with tail pipe eliminated.
save you lots of money too which you can you use for a cold air intake which can give you a growl sound as well or other performance enhancements.

I was able no find this one here based on 3 in inlet/outlet and 14i n length:
MagnaFlow/14 x 4 x 9 in. body satin finish stainless steel oval muffler (11229) | Muffler | AutoZone.com
I would not know what pipe would be needed though?
Also, would the turn down be the exhaust tip?

I believe that your stock exhaust pipe should fit that, being 3in pipe. And a turn down is just a short section of pipe off the back of the muffler that directs the exhaust downwards toward the ground.

Thanks. I am looking for that agressive tone so I was leaning toward the 40 series magnaflow. I would most likely keep the stock pipes so I won't get killed in cost for the whole exhaust kit.
As for a turned down exhaust pipe, I would probably get an exhaust tip to attach to my stock pipe.

My muffler did not gain any power on the dyno but sounds great. I used the stock 2.75 exhaust tail pipe and just filled the gap w the welder. I like the stock tail pipe ( no awful chrome tip ) look. If u find a three inch stock looking exhaust tail pipe. Please pm me where u found it.
Remeher u will need a straight section of 3 inch to make up for the length difference between a short aftermarket muffler and the long stock one
