I would think with that lean condition on one cylinder it would show up on the plug.

Man you have terrible luck with pistons, have you thought about just going with an assembled forged ls1 shortblock could be cheaper and quicker in the long run

He is a very compentent engine builder it seems that something else was out of his control. Would you blame GM for the pistons on his 4.8?

#2 plug is more white and showing lean and the electode was melted. The top of the piston looked fine. I let it idle for 10-15 mins with the new injectors before I pulled the engine so that skewed the reading on the plugs a little.
If I bought an engine all i'll be doing is paying for a warranty that I might could use the next time I tear it up. When you are pushing engines to the max it isn't a matter of if, it is when it goes, you just try to slow down the process with building to the proper tolerances and good parts.

Damn,

I have a headache now just reading all of this. I think I will keep my 5.3 SC and not mess around. I am sure you will get it done and running even faster.

I just got my injectors back from Casper's Electronics and the problem was found. One injector was flowing at least 25% less than the rest. They cleaned and flowed them all and couldn't get the bad one up. Only got it within 11%. Oh well, at least I know. I would have been sick if they all checked out ok.

Are you gonna be reinstalling those injectors or are you gonna buy a new one to replace the FUBARed one?

Have you decided on a stroker crank or not yet?

I had already bought more injectors but I will have to get a new one to replace it.
I am waiting on my Eagle 408 rotating assembly.

I was already starting to regret it some. With the low compression I was running (8.9) I was lacking low end torque that i'd like to have and the 408 would fix that even though it will be 8.6:1. It will cost about $1000 more to do the 408 (crank and rods) since there is no off the shelf pistons for the 6.098 rod. The extra cost for custom pistons will run about the same as buying rods.
On the other hand if I go with the 408 then I would soon go to a 88mm for sure. Where does it stop?
The way I see it, its cheaper to just do it once the way you want it, than to do it twice or more because you always want more...
