Default Research on 6.0 Swap

Well, About a week agi i posted that my radix'd 5.3 may be shot. It's goin back to FMS this week and just doin a little research ahead of time. If it turns out that its gonna cost a good bit to fix the 5.3, i might as well throw in a 6.0...right? I mean why not!? lol
So, where could i pick one up at? Couldnt find anything on ebay. About how much are they going for? Also, would i need a new set of headers or would my 5.3 shorties fit? Would i run into any other complications during the swap?

any info appreciated

thanks,
Chris

Its an easy swap adn it works. You can search car-part.com for a motor. They usually range between 1000-14000 for a complete LQ4. I found a pretty good deal on there. The LQ9 is considerably more in price. Just make sure when you get a motor that you get one with the 317 alum heads!! Which I believe are 02+ LQ4's. eBay isnt usually a great place to look. Prices are usually pretty high on there. 5.3 shorties should fit to my knowledge. What have you done to your tranny to strengthen it for your radix setup?

I looked for mine from the places that rebuilds engines, got a price quote of $650.00 for a 6.0 long block motor with intake and oil pan, may have more with it, just depends on what was striped off before they get it. it is a good place to start looking for a motor to rebuild with after market parts.

Good point there. I wanted a full running 6.0 with the 317 heads. Didnt want something that needed rebuilt.

ok...if someone around here is really bored...could they point me in the right direction on car-part.com. I have no idea what all the codes/notes on there mean?! All I know is that I need a '02 6.0 Lq4 with 317 heads so the radix will work.
Ive been working so much, i havent had alot of time to look into it

The salvage yards just throw that babble in there as notes to themselves and potential buyers. Sometimes you can decipher what it means. Sometimes they put in there if its running, or comp for compression and the numbers, miles, if it was burnt, what parts the engines missing etc. If one cathces your eye, just call the yard that has the motor. I found that was the easiest thing to do.

The LQ4 is the best way to go in your situation id say. But yes, you do want the 317 heads. 02+ 6.0's had the 317's.

and when I ask if it is a LQ4 or Lq9, they act like im crazy? are all '02's LQ4s?

You can get whatever mileage you feel safe with. But I would wait if I were you. $1800 and $2000 is too high. If they dont know what an LQ4 is I feel sorry for them.
