I got the same light about a month after I got my truck. I just replaced the switch and it has never showed up again.

My 4WD switch in my truck only worked on 2HI and 4HI, 4LOW, Auto4WD and Neutral did not work or light up. I read this tip this afternoon, went out to my 2000 Suburban and took my 4WD switch out of my dash and used a couple straight screw drivers to pop the tabs to take apart the switch to get to the circuit board. I noticed right away there was 6 pins that the solder was cracked around them. Also noticed that the solder on all the pins is very thin, so I re-solder all of them with extra solder put it back together, reinstalled it in the truck and now everything works. Auto 4WD, 2HI, 4HI, 4LOW, Neutral.

Thanks very much Rumblebox for this tip, saved me a few dollars not having to go out and buy a new switch.
