Default question about lucas oil

ok, so im thinkin about mixin in a bottle of lucas oil on my next oil change for the soul purpose of the whole dry start thing, well i was talkin to my pops about it and he made a pretty good point, ok so this stuff is supposed to stop ur truck from having a dry start right? RIGHT! well what is the oil doing for say, 8 or 9 hours while ur sleeping? is the oil just staying on the walls.....which i doubt, or is sir isaac newtons theory of this little thing called gravity letting the oil go down? so if the oil is going down, that means ur still going to have a dry start, meaning lucas oil is useless right? let me know fellas, thx

I have always wondered about Lucas oil. It seems pretty thick though, so I wondered about the bearings and also hp loss.

get a bottle of the stuff and smear a little on a piece of sheetmetal, about 2 feet long, and stand it on its side, over night. do the same with regular oil. now look, yes some of it will run completely down, but the film that is left by what didnt is the inportant part. I bet it is at least twice as thick as the film left by the normal motor oil. also, try to get that stuff clean from you hand, or that piece of sheetmetal. A little tougher to do than normal oil. thats where it helps on dry starts and keeping everything with some form of oil film on it to prevent a dry start. as for the thickness of it, it will get just about as thick as your normal oil once you mix it and run it through a few heat cycles, but it still retains that "stickyness" property. yes a 1-2 hp decrease may be caused by the oil, but I would give that up for the longevity of my bearing and the rest of my engine.

I've used the non-synthetic Lucas additive in Mobil 1 in my old Civic and it does thicken the oil and it stays that way when hot. I didn't put 20% by volume like it says. Seemed to make the engine a little quieter at start-up.
