Default Power window motors... 00 Sierra

Here's the problem.... My windows go up very slowly... Are they going out, or do they need to be greased?

If they are going out.... where is the best place to get them.. The dealer said that it is a whole set up.. motor, regulator, cables, etc... Dealer cost $95 per side. That's tooooo much..

Do you have to replace everything or just the motor?

Is the job difficult? I've done many different vehicles in the past and hated everyone.

Thanks

I hadn't replaced a window regulator since the last century, back in '89. It wasn't too bad in my truck (the cable broke), but they sure are a lot cheesier than the old gear and arm style.
Mine is manual, and I think that even if you could replace just the motor, you should replace the entire regulator, they aren't built very well.

Try spraying a little silicone spray down the window run before you replace anything, it may help a bit.

Same here. My drivers side creeps up slooooooow. I'm gonna hook up a boost-a-pump to it. I think 20 volts should get it moving. LOL!

Anybody replaced a window motor yet?

**** $95 is a hell of a deal especially from the dealer, I bought the passenger side from O'Reilly for $150 and driver side from the dealer for $200. Looks like I got screwed on both regulators.

As for replacing the motor, replace the whole unit, it is really easy and takes about 30 minutes. The regulator is held in the door with 5 bolts and two bolts hold the window to the regulator. Use some masking tape to hold the window up, this makes the job really easily since you are not fighting the window.

The regulator has 4 plastic pulleys that if not lube will wear out very quickly. My window on the passenger side (replaced about 2 years ago) rolled up slowly untill I sprayed some WD-40 on the track, slides, pulleys, and in the cables. My driver side window with the oem regulator rolls up quick and I have not touch it for 4 years now (replaced it 4 years ago), but I did lube it when I did the passenger side.
