Default Place your bets - Will the dealership replace my Cats?

I left my truck at the dealership (where I bought it from) this morning. Got a P0430 DTC, which is Cat Efficiency Low-Pass side. The code could be thrown for a bad rear O2 sensor OR a bad cat. Swapped the two rear O2 sensors, cleared the code, got the same P0430. So now I know it's not the O2 sensor. The dealership wouldn't give me a definate Yes or No when I asked if the cats (only 55k miles, warranty good to 80k) would be warrantied even though I have a Whipple. They told me to bring it on in, so I did. Waiting for their assesment now. What do y'all think? Will they do the work? I can't see how they could claim, and/or even argue, that the Whipple ruined the cats. We will see.

If the cat is the problem - I bet they will - push come to shove
The exhaust is a seperate system from the engine
The whipple has modified the engine not the CATs
That is how I would argue it.
CAT's are stock

They are required by Federal law as part of the emissions controls system to cover your cats unless they can prove you messed them up. I don't see how they would be able to do that.

I bet that they're gonna try and say that they can't warranty em because the engine induction system has been modified. Tell them you'll give them a good survey...if they don't bite, argue like there's no tomorrow!

Still haven't heard from them...probably 'road testing' it

I'm thinking what you guys have said is probably true. The burden of proof is on them concerning the cats being affected by the SCer.

They dont have to tell GM you had a whipple, and replacing the Y pipe is common. If they are cool, they will do it. They will still get paid by GM since the truck had less than 80K. If they won't warranty it, tell them you are picking it up, then try another GM dealership.

Are thier headers or true duals on there? If so, they will have a reason to not do it, but if the Y-pipe is in tact to factory spec, then they shouldn't have a leg to stand on when it comes to that.

Good news! They are going to replace the stock Y-pipe tomorrow. I didn't hear one grumble at all about the Whipple. I guess this means a good survey for them!

Well, guess what? The Service Mgr said "Not covered under warranty" because I had "modified the fuel system" by installing the WHipple. No ****, Sherlock! That would be why I called yesterday and asked if the supercharger made a difference! Now I guess I will try the 2 other Chebby dealerships in town and see if they will work with me.

I think I would get on the phone with gm customer service and get a area manager on the phone.
