If his rpms didn't drop between shifts, he had a stall converter. He had a lot of **** done it sounds like.

If you run 4.88 gears I wouldn't DD that truck long distance. and you'll only hit no more than maybe 40mph in first with those. It'll pull really good tho.

Have you done any searching and reading other threads on this stuff?

yea. thats what im gonna say. he probably did have a lot of stuffdone to it. he unhooked the exhaust and it sounded factory. what i mean is the motor didnt sound built. but if you put a 114 lsa cam in it will it sound built? I dont know man. I was just impressed at how damn fast it took off. I dont know if i mentioned it but but when he took off the rpms were slow to move but the mph was like holy f'in **** i mean the speedo took off and when it was at 6,000 rpm it didnt sound like a stock truck(like its going to blow up). The exhaust was really quiet and deep. I dont know man just looking to see if anyone on here had it or anything. it is a 1999 silverado maroon 2wd. ls, fact. wheels tires, had silverado on the windshield. it came a from a rustbelt cause the exhaust was all rusty and ****. no extra gauges. already said what mods he told me he had. i got pics of underneath to see what tranny it had so that would help me determine what motor. All i know is that thing was FAST. anymore help is appreciated.

If he had a stall what do you think it was? when he took off it didnt go straight to 3,000 rpm. He took off at 1500 rpm. He had to shift it manually or atleast thats what he did(saw him around a year ago driving and he was still shifting it manually).ummm its been a while so im trying to remember. i just know that it didnt go to 3000 rpm like you see in a lot of peoples videos.

Personally i'm going to run a 3200, it doesn't matter what HE did, you can do your own thing.
Learn from your friend tho. do NOT shift an automatic transmission manually with the shifter. Your just slowly buying a new one. Shift points can be changed in the tune, no reason to be in any gear other than D or OD.
I have a 114 in mine and when cold it lopes pretty decent, but when warm you have to know what your listening to. But you can get a badass cam without lope, just that most N/A people want lope.
If his rpms climbed slow and his speedo took off, then He likely changed the gear ratio and didn't change it in the tune. When my 4.11 gears got put in and the PCM was still tuned for 3.42's, the speedo read about 15mph faster than I was moving.

he bought the truck the way it was. he didnt do anything to it except a stereo. So even with the hd2 kit you cant shift manually? I tried to buy his truck buy he wouldnt sell it said he was going to make it his race truck. So i dont know. im getting ready to buy a 5.3 motor and put a cam in it and **** and see what it will do on the dyno that is near me. what all should i replace with the cam????

shift kit makes the vehicle shift quicker. it doesn't mean you should shift it manually.
If you asking what you need for a cam swap, its cam, springs and push rods.
What kind of cam to get is up to you, do some reading and searching in the GM Engine section and see what you like.

on transgo's webstie it says you can hold 1 2 3. here is the cam im thinking about going with. texas speed224 XE. 224/224 .566/.566 115 lsa (will that be a nice sleeper cam?) 1600-6400 power band. texas speed 224R 224/224 .581/.581 1400-6300 rpm power band 116lsa (sleeper Idle it says). texas speed 228R 228/228 .588/.588 1600-6300 power band 114 lsa. there are a couple other ones. Also what about a whipple(which superchargers were avail. around 99-02 that were quiet?)whipple at 7-10psi? or something else? supercharger is just a guess at what he had. *Stall. want it like my friends dont want it to hop to 3000 rpm as soon as i floor it and if i have to tow i want to be able to tow and it still take off like a bat out of hell. I wnat it to take off and no rpm drop in between or maybe 500 at the most? which one>??
