His speedo is way off or he was doing a 2/3 shift not 1/2. he's not going to do 80 in first. 60-65 at the most.
at the top of the GM drivetrain section there is a Gear/MPH calculator. Play with it and see the shift points based on different gears and tire sizes.

It's possible he COULD be running real short gears but then it wouldn't accelerate as quick.

See thats why i want to talk to him again and see what all he really did have. And it couldnt have been 2/3 because he started out in 1st on the selector and he had to manually shift it.

Yes the tires on it were factory 235/70/16. This is what he told me he had. 5.3 c.a.i custom tune shift kit true duals tb spacer. didnt tell me anything else. i just want to build one like it. he shifted it to 6000 rpm and it didnt sound like it was over revving or anything like the factory. im lost man. Oh yea and when he took off it didnt jump to 3000 rpm or anything it went to 1500 and had hella power.............. so torque converter? cam? gears?

doesnt matter, unless you have like an HD2 Shift kit/reprogramming kit in the tranny, u can roll around town with it in "1" and itll still shift

Look at sprayin LS1's truck. he said he could do 0-60 in 3-3.5 sec. and thats 1st gear. and that was what 3.73 gears and 4L60 e trans i think.

The tach may have been at 6,000 RPM on it's second trip around.
3.73 gears would require about 8,000 RPM at 60 MPH or really big tires...

in my truck 2007 nnbs silverado 5.3 3.73 gears 4x4 ext. cab hypertech programmer c.a.i borla exhaust i can do 50 or so in 1st. gear. at 6,000 rpm. and it sounds like it wants to blow up. what is needed to not be like that a cam that goes to 6300 rpm tops and set the shifts at 6,000??? how does this setup sound for a 99 silverado. 5.3 texas speed 224R, c.a.i, hd2 shift kit, true duals,4.88 gears 4L60E. custom tune.
