Paging anyone who tows with a 2/4 drop
#1
I am still contemplating getting a Hotchkis 2/4 drop kit, but am afraid if I tow anything that the rear end wont be able to handle the added weight. How would the hotchkis 2/4 handle a 21 foot boat? I am thinking it would sink it to the ground unless I had some helper air bags. I would love to have the performance and look of the 2/4, but I am afraid I will lose the utility of the truck. Any thoughts?

I have air shocks with shock relocators on my truck. My boat is a 18ft bass boat about 1800 with trailer. I put 100 lbs in them and then the truck sits level and does not bottom out and pulls fine. Just depends on what your tounge weight is also. I used air shocks because I didn't want to put in a pump, switch, guages, bags.

I have the SlamAir helper bags on mine. My hotchkis springs did great for over a year then all of a sudden started sagging int the rear. Everyone else I know with the Hotchkis kit has not had that problem though.

What exactly are the air shocks w/ relocators? Can anyone tell me how these work? From what I gather, you have a shock that can be filled with a desired amount of air when needed, but whats the deal with the relocators? What is being relocated? Also, are you running a different shock up front when you are running the air shocks in the back?
P.S BigKID, are you running the SlamAir or SlamAir Plus, also are you running the stock shocks.
Thanks for the replies.

I've towed a fully loaded 6X14 tandem axle enclosed Haulmark trailer quite a few times with the Hotchkis drop and it performed as well as it did stock. As long as you have some sort of load distribution hitch you should be fine. Even when I towed a fully loaded tandem axle U-haul trailer I didn't run into problems.
