Default This noise is driving me Nuts!

I’ve had this annoying high pitched squeaking noise coming from the firewall area? It was intermittent for about a year now. But just recently its come on at full force... I can’t stand it.

before I start ripping into the dash, I want to be sure I’m looking in the right place. There’s a chance that it might be coming from the engine bay on the firewall, or even suspension. I also think one of my long tubes could be touching the frame rail from tired motor mounts. It seems to be dependent on road vibrations, more than anything else. It sounds like Bunch of little baby birds chirping. I’m guessing it’s either the long tube against the frame rail or metal dash clips behind the dash.

see video clip attached. Hoping one of you has had the same issue and can tell me where to look so I can regain my sanity.

Push down on the top of the dash, does it go away?

I had a similar noise from the dash on my old Z71, pushing down or slapping the top would get it to stop squeaking. Sounded like it was coming from behind the cluster.

Check the longtubes where it meets the ypipe/crossmember.

Mine had to be massaged a bit.

When I was young doing warranty at a Pontiac dealership (sucked) I'd hit this grassy field near the shop trying to find squeaks in brand new cars. The bumps amplified the sounds making easier to locate. Find an extra set of hands & ears and push, pull, squeeze everything you can get your hands on. Crawl under and shake the hell out of the mufflers, make sure the rubber hood bumpers are adjusted up making contact, if you have an aftermarket head unit is it bouncing in it's mount etc.

did most all of that up to the point of pulling the dash off and looking for one of those worn out metal clips sliding around more than it should.. surprisingly everything’s inside the truck is pretty sound and rattle free. I did stereos for many years, so getting rid of unusual unwanted noises is always part of the gig.

Sounds like a loose fender bolt or bracket to me

the passenger side is making contact with the frame, right before the collector. I’m definitely not overlooking this, but the noise seems to be a lot closer to the cab or inside. I’ll get it up on jacks this weekend to see if I can find anything under there that’s metal on metal.

i had that noise in both 04's i got so annoyed i sold the 1st one after ripping the dash apart 5 times!!!

my current truck after a few month started doing it but this time i was not giving in, found it was the plastic bearing at the bottom of the steering column installed a new one and been good since

its weird sounds like its coming from the top of the dash or out side the cab, Dorman p/n 905-512 like $25 and about 30 minutes on your back working under the dash

sounded just like that if its not your noise id be shocked....

I have a sound exactly as you described - birds chirping. It is my lumbar support in the seat. It sounds as though it's coming from somewhere else, but it is indeed my seat. It has been squeaking for quite some time (years). Once I ever get it fixed, my interior will be silent again.
