Need help with engine dipstick
#1
Hello to all, need to address an issue with my LM4 before installing, I have no engine oil dipstick. There isn't a port on the block because the vehicles that originally came with the LM4 had the stick coming off the pan. Previous owner had already changed the motor to the truck pan so now I have no place to put a dipstick. What would you all recommend doing? I'm thinking my best bet is to machine a hole. The boss is on the block, just not the hole itself.

In my 99 I broke the dip stick off when doing my LTs. I epoxy'd a bolt in the hole. Its got a low level sensor, and in that truck I change the oil every 3000ish miles.
How often do you actually use the dip stick anyway

Well, honestly, I probably use it more than necessary. I've got a neighbor who is a machinist, so he could probably machine a hole, but im not sure what the hole looks like. I assume there is a seat of some kind as I see there is an oil seal there in the parts diagram. I don't suppose anyone would have a picture or some measurements...?

Get the dipstick and measure it, then all you should have to do is drill the hole and install the dipstick...all it is is a hole, and the dipstick has a ridge that will bottom out on the boss on the block. The dipstick secures by bolting to the head, so you'll have to get the right size bolt

I'd go down and take a pic for ya, but my truck is locked up at work as I'm driving a customer's car trying to verify their concern over the weekend. If nobody posts a pic up by Monday evening I'll try to get a pic for ya though

I believe you are correct. With the amount of rust in the beveled part, it seems like no part of the dipstick was contacting that part of the hole, so the bevel probably isn't necessary.
