Default Messed up speedometer! HELP!

I've looked around on google a little bit at the problem, and have come up with AcDelco or Delphi, can't remember which, made a faulty motor for it in the 2003 models. I'l be driving, pull up to a stop light, speedo drops down like usual. Light turns green so i accelerate, well my speedo needle doesn't keep up..... Sucks when you're driving at night 10 miles from home with no traffic in an area buzzing with cops.

Used to if i turned the truck off, let it sit for a couple of seconds, and restart it the needle would reset. Now i have to let it set for 30 minutes to an hour!!!!

Mine usually says I'm going WAY under the speed limit. My friend with an 03 says his will show hes doing 120 miles an hour when he's going like 30. And yesterday I'm goin down the highway. HAD to be doing ATLEAST 75; what's my speedometer show, the needle is UNDER 0. It showed i was going a NEGATIVE speed.

WHAT'S THE DEAL?!?! How can this be fixed without spending several hundred dollars. It seems to be getting worse and happening more frequent.

I forget if the 03s are covered under warranty but the dealership is supposed to fix the problem for free if you have under 75,000 miles or something to that tune.

If they won't then buy a stepper motor on ebay and swap it out.

Same thing happened on my wifes 03 tahoe and we were also out of the recall limit. I bought a remanufactured one from www.floridaspeedometer.com and it was painless. It was $185 bucks all said and done. Chevy should have replaced then regardless of how many miles you have since it came with the defective parts right out of the factory. BS if you ask me. Hope that helps.

If it's out of warranty, it sounds like a perfect time to upgrade to an escalade cluster.

Well one from an 03-06 truck. An 01-02 Escalade/Denali cluster won't work. Basically make sure the Diagnostic display is in the bottom rather than to the left and you'll be fine.

First one I found:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-...Q5fAccessories

Offer him $160 and see if he takes it.
