I just heard a guy call in to Clark Howard (national consumer-affairs talking head on FM radio) with a question about filing an insurance claim on his stolen 4x4 vehicle. Apparently, the thief led the police on a high-speed chase (in excess of 120MPH according to the caller) before he lost them long enough to abandon the vehicle. No apparent damage to the vehicle, the guy said; it was just driven at a high rate of speed...in 4-wheel drive!

Over 120MPH in 4wd? Clark Howard says, I gotta ask you this: what kind of SUV/T do you have that can do that? The guy's response? A Dodge Ram Quad Cab!?!

My first thought was that he shouldn't be trying to figure out whether the insurance will pay him for diminished value or accelerated depreciation and start trying to figure how he's gonna explain why the speed limiter wasn't functional and why the truck could run like that!

Just struck me as funny.

 

I think the news reports are almost always exagerated.
